Working as an LPN in Behavioral health as well as Pediatrics and Oncology grew her love for nursing as she worked toward her Associate’s degree graduating in May of 2003 from The University of Arkansas, Fort Smith. This granted her the opportunity to work in many areas including emergency, critical care, as well as nursing leadership. Each of these challenges allowed her to pursue her passion for serving as a patient advocate. Her skills were recognized early when she received the Outstanding Student of the Year Award in 1999, and again when she was selected for the Mercy Living Our Values Award for Service in 2010.
Initially licensed as an LPN and ultimately as an RN with specialty certifications in Trauma Nursing Core Course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, she now engages with adult clients via the Population Health Model. Beyond her professional life, Christy has served others through the Laubach Literacy Program, Family Mentor Program, and the Community Flu Vaccination Program.
Professionally, Christy has utilized her LEAN certification to manage hospital-based quality improvement projects designed to improve the patient experience. These include ‘Quiet Time,” an inpatient comfort effort, and a Patient Satisfaction Mentor Program. Large-scale projects include anchoring a Volunteer Nurse Program, and a leadership role in the training, and implementation of the Epic EMR system for a paper-based facility.
